What is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)?
SEO involves factoring in the ways search engines rank websites and analyzing peoples search behavior in an effort to make your website as search engine friendly as possible.

Understanding SEO
Before you can really have an understanding of SEO, you firstly need to have an understanding of how search engines work.

For simplicity sake lets classify a search engines as ‘crawler-based’ engines only. Examples of these kinds of engines are Google, MSN and Yahoo which are the UK’s biggest players.

These engines spider the web by following links from one page to another and indexing (saving) everything they find on the way. When someone enters a search, that search is matched to the indexed page which best matches the keywords of that search.

How do engines rank pages? Well, essentially by using “ranking formulas” which help the engines determine which pages are the most relevant to a particular search.
